Filipino Prisoners Do It Again!!
Jun 18, 2010

A symphony orchestra has performed its first concert in a maximum security prison in Manila. But it is no ordinary band - its members are inmates, many serving life sentences for violent crimes. The 100-member Bureau of Corrections Grand Orchestra and Chorale at the New Bilibid Prison in Manila played Broadway pieces and love songs in the local Tagalog language to prison officials, relatives and media. A soloist, backed by the orchestra, also sang New York, New York as women inmates in top hats and coattails danced.
Prison officials and organizers said the project was part of efforts to showcase musical talents of some of the inmates and help prepare them for release. The performance was reminiscent of an Internet smash hit several years ago, when the central Cebu provincial prison warden organized hundreds of inmates to dance to Michael Jackson’s songs.
Their performances have received millions of hits on YouTube. Check it out!!!

Driven to prove that Hawaii has a thriving hip-hop community, Hype 5-0 is out to show there is more to Hawaii than swaying grass skirts and coconut bras. With limited funds for travel, Hype 5-0 has honed their skills by spending countless hours on the Internet studying crews from the mainland. Now after conquering the island dance scene with imported moves this hard-hitting crew is ready to export themselves to the mainland and take the ‘ABDC’ stage by storm. They have immense Hawaiian pride and incorporate native dance moves in all of their routines.
